Your first time

Nearly everyone who books has never done this. That is the normal case.

You do not need to surf. You do not need to be fit. You need to be able to swim, be comfortable in deep water, and be willing to fall in a few times — which, in flat water with a buoyancy vest on, is the easiest part of the day.

The progression

  1. On your belly

Five minutes. You lie on the board and get used to the throttle, which is a trigger in your hand and nothing else. Squeeze, the board moves. Let go, it stops.

  2. On your knees

Ten minutes. Same thing, higher up. Somewhere in here you will feel the foil start to lift underneath you and the board go quiet.

  3. One foot up

The awkward bit, and it is short. Everybody falls here. Falling off an eFoil into flat water is genuinely nothing.

  4. Standing

Most people are standing and taxiing across the water inside half an hour.

  5. Flying

The board lifts, the noise stops, and the water is suddenly half a metre below you. First flights are usually a few seconds. By the end of the session they are much longer.

What to bring, and what not to.

Bring

  • Swimwear to wear under the wetsuit
  • A towel and something warm for afterwards
  • Water, and sunscreen you have already put on
  • Your phone — the film reaches it on WhatsApp within two days

We provide

  • Wetsuit in your size — 3/2mm most of the year, shorty in summer
  • Impact vest and helmet, both compulsory
  • The board, set up and ready to ride
  • Somewhere to leave your things while you ride

Sea temperature runs about 15°C in February and 22°C in September. We run all year — in winter you get a thicker wetsuit and the water is usually flatter and completely empty.

Still not sure?

Message us and describe yourself honestly — age, whether you swim, whether you have ever stood on anything. We will tell you straight whether this will work for you. We would rather talk you out of it than have you spend €229 on a bad morning.
