Where we ride

One of the world's best beaches, and a lake in the hills.

A fixed location is a liability in the Algarve — the wind that puts a chop on the sea often leaves the hills inland glassy. So we keep two very different waters, and you choose. If the forecast is against your pick, we tell you and suggest the other.

Praia da Falésia

Vilamoura · Albufeira

The sea off Praia da Falésia, the long beach under the red cliffs between Vilamoura and Albufeira — voted the best beach in the world by Tripadvisor travellers in 2024. On a still morning it is as flat as anything inland, and it is the easy one to reach if you are staying in the resort belt.

Barragem do Arade

Silves · inland

A dam lake in the hills above Silves. Hills on every side keep the wind off, there is no swell to roll in, and the sunsets come straight down the water.

How we read it

Sunrise to sunset. Each water gets the word for its better half of the day, judged on wind and, at sea, waves. Golden hour is the last hour before sunset. It is a forecast, not a booking: you pick the water, and if the wind turns against it we tell you.

Good day to fly?

Is this week a good week?

A forecast, not a booking. You pick the day and the water; if the wind turns against it, we tell you.

Further ahead

An early look, and it will change. Check back a few days before — or send us your dates and we'll keep an eye on them.

How to choose

The Algarve's south coast is sheltered from the Nortada, the north-westerly that hammers the west coast through summer. That is why we work here and not around Sagres. On a calm morning the sea off Praia da Falésia is as flat as it gets, with the red cliffs behind you.

When the breeze picks up or a swell rolls in, the sea is out and the reservoir is in: no tide, no swell, and hills on every side. Pick the one you want. If the forecast is against it on your day, we tell you and suggest the other.

Staying somewhere else?

Both waters are an easy drive from most of the central Algarve — Portimão, Lagoa and Carvoeiro are closer to the reservoir; Quarteira, Vilamoura and Albufeira are on the coast we ride.

Tell us where you are staying when you ask for a date and we will tell you honestly which water makes sense for you.
